Red Robin recruits for the alt-Right (unintentionally)

Summary: Both the far-Left and far-Right have become revolutionary movements. Both are recruiting Americans – in the name of our values – for the final showdown. Here’s are examples. This post is a play with four acts.

Uncle Sam: We want you!

As America’s intelligentsia moves Left, their products become increasingly strange. As in this advertisement by Red Robin. Whatever the intent of the its executives, this is recruitment video for alt-right and men’s movement groups. The Proud Boys and others should post it everywhere.

Subtext: “Have pride men! Be strong! Or you too will be treated with contempt by women.”

Check for sexism by reversing the genders in this advertisement and imagine it running on TV. How would feminists react?

Contrast this with a advert from our past

Comic books and other print media ran Charles Atlas advertisements from the 1940s through the 1960s (perhaps even later). Compare the two advertisements to see how our society has changed. Which kind of America is best suited for the storms of the 21st century, with challenges both foreign and domestic? As a thought experiment, imagine how Washington’s cabinet would react to both ads. Which would they prefer?

Charles Atlas advertisement

See this comment posted about Charles Atlas. Nicely said!

“Charles Atlas ads were never to put down women or do anything except make men stronger. Charles Atlas the man helped woman’s rights, healthcare and also helped get men ready that were going into the armed services at that time. Charles Atlas was a true American Hero and everyone could use his ideals in today’s world. He never believed in harming others unless it was the last resort. He had impeccable manners as well.”

See the world thru feminist eyes

I recommend reading “The Cut” on Medium – “Showing the world what women are made of.” It does just as promised. For example:

What Happens When a Married Woman Goes on Tinder?

“It started as an experiment. What I found made me want more.”

A wife goes on Tinder “as an experiment.” She gets excited. Nothing happens, at least in her version of the story — at least until the point at which the story was written. But she seems ready for infidelity, and has already justified it in her mind. See the opening and ending.

“I’ve spent a lot of time thinking and talking and writing about marriage, and I’d begun to notice more and more women subverting, reimagining, or challenging received notions surrounding the institution, specifically when it came to monogamy. More women were beginning to see opening their marriages as a legitimate and in many ways appealing option. …

“They {the women on Tinder} wanted the things I used to want, and I in turn wanted what they had — freedom, excitement, interesting conversations that didn’t center on styles of child-rearing or real estate, the experience of moving through the world not exclusively as a wife or mother but as a sexual being, a full and complicated and multifaceted person, the experience of being wooed, wanted, admired, acknowledged, and seen. Perhaps married women were simply beginning to want what married men have always wanted and come to expect: more.”

All the boxes are checked. She’s ready for a ride on the wild side. She has already worked out why her infidelity will be her husband’s fault. Here we see the thinking that produces the high divorce numbers.

This also shows a seldom-mentioned aspect of modern society. Young women are not being instructed by or learning from older women (hence so many young women panicking as they approach “the wall” at 30). Instead, older women are learning from younger women about the joys of being unleashed from conventions. It’s the first step to divorce.

“I’ve always felt like an average-looking woman, a solid 6 or maybe a 7 if I bother to wear mascara, but swiping through my matches and messages, I felt like a special species. I felt coveted and appreciated and valued and desired. Why isn’t every married woman in the world on Tinder, I began to wonder. It all felt the way romance was supposed to feel  –  playful and exciting and unserious.”

This woman captures in one paragraph feelings that Dalrock and others have written about in a hundred posts. The thrill of casual hookups, romance and sex unfettered to anything enduring or “serious.” Excitement and tingles rule! Does she “bother to wear mascara for her husband”, or (after marriage) just for strangers?

This is a stage in Girls’ Game: romance, party-of-her-life, marriage, kids, divorce, money (community property & child support, details here), and independence.

Men responding to the new Women

We can already see the obvious and natural responses by men: losing interest in marriage and (just emerging) divorcing feminist wives (hopefully before their first child). But those are low-level responses. Men shape the world by standing together to pursue larger goals. The rise of alt-right groups is an inevitable result of the Left’s fantastic success at implementing their experiments in social engineering since 1960 (e.g., open borders, gender relations).

The Left has embraced sexism and racism, favoring their chosen groups, reversing generations of work. The Right in turn reciprocates, embracing their dark side. Down we go, towards a fate nobody can foresee.

This is the real prisoner’s dilemma. You are thrown into prison. Alone you are fresh meat, nothing but a victim. There is safety only by joining a gang, so you look around the yard. There are the Puerto Ricans, the Black Muslims, MS-13, and the White Nazi Bikers. Choose one.

The middle is dead in America. This is the essence of Weimerica. If America continues down this path, each of us will face such a choice. The specifics will differ, but the choices will be no better. We must create a new middle, a new politics. The choice is ours. We will make the decisive choice either voluntarily now or by force later.

The Second Coming” by Yeats.

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,

The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity. …

Learning about the alt-Right

The Left’s sexism and racism are respectable, featured in the major news media. The Left works to suppress the expression of the Right’s equivalent (my fav: running an interview with Vox Day sparked regime change plus abject apology at a comics website). It is futile.

Theodore Robert Beale (born 1968, Wikipedia), AKA Vox Day, is an American writer, editor, video game designer, blogger and alt-right activist. Here is a summary of his views: “The #MilRight is inevitable.

“The answer isn’t white supremacy because white supremacy simply isn’t true. Whites are not superior, but whites are the only tribe willing and able to maintain Western civilization because they are the only tribe that truly values it. The answer for those who support Western civilization, regardless of sex, color, or religion, is to embrace white tribalism, white separatism, and especially white Christian masculine rule.”

  1. Larry, in your recurring visits to this topic, my impression is that you have been repeatedly re-diagnosing what you perceive as the problem, but have spent little or no time generating a wider range of possibly more “futures-appropriate” remedies.

I confess I have not read every piece in this series verbatim but, so far, no ideas have jumped out at me about how you personally might think we can and should “re-invent” and support the institutions of marriage and family–in order to perpetuate them–but in ways that might be more compatible with, and adaptable to, a wider range of current, emerging, and plausible future 21st century “STEEP” (socio-cultural, technological, economic, environmental, and political-legal) scenarios.

I think most such scenarios are not likely to be identical re-runs of any pre-21st century period in American or world history. So I also think further thought and discussion about this topic might benefit from the generation of more forward-thinking ideas about how to preserve and perpetuate any essential roles that traditional concepts of marriage and family may have played in the past, and which you and others think have prevented the end of civilization as we have known it, but in possibly more novel ways that can better cope with a wider range of future threats and opportunities–many of which you have identified in your own writing.

if you have offered any such thoughts in past iterations, and I have simply overlooked them, please feel free to direct me to them in your archives. Thanks!

      Thomas,

“my impression is that you have been repeatedly re-diagnosing what you perceive as the problem”

Few of these post attempt to “diagnose” the problem. That’s over my pay grade. I point to a few sources that do that kind of deeper analysis, such as Allan Bloom’s Closing of the American Mind. I describing symptoms, and effects. Like most of what’s on the FM website, it is reporting and superficial analysis (the kind that can be done in a thousand words).

Even that gets only a small audience compared to the posts that give Americans what they want: simple morality tales with bad guys to boo at, heroic angels to cheer. Those are the ones that go viral, getting thousands (or tens of thousands) of pageviews.

“have spent little or no time generating a wider range of possibly more “futures-appropriate” remedies.”

I don’t know what you read, but the posts on the FM website spend much more time discussing solutions than anywhere else I know. Political reform: 121 posts. Solutions to the gender wars: 8 (from 192 posts; I’ve just begun this phase).

My goals are more modest than finding “future appropriate remedies.” I seek next steps that have some potential, imo, to find a path to a better future. I have no idea what that might be. I’ve mentioned that we can’t go back, and the path we are on probably leads to a bleak future.

“no ideas have jumped out at me about how you personally might think we can and should “re-invent” and support the institutions of marriage and family”

The web overflows with people having such nifty “ideas” about the future. They are easy to generate, a staple content of sci fi and feminist fiction. They seldom — very seldom — discuss the subject of interest to me: what’s the next step to get their. Without that, they are dreams. My preference is to take baby steps forward – what can we do today – staying in firm contact with the ground.

“I also think further thought and discussion about this topic might benefit from the generation of more forward-thinking ideas”

That sounds like a great idea. Good luck with that. If you generate something of depth (beyond anything for which I have the time or wit to produce), getting an audience will be the challenge. Perhaps a journal will publish it. Of course, that does not mean it will have a large audience. In my experience, Americans prefer to read about dreams of the future, and food fights of today.

      Thomas,

Embarrassingly, I forgot to mention the primary purpose of the articles about the gender war (193 so far) – and of everything on the FM website: to motivate people to act. All analysis, predictions, and recommendations are only means to that end.

      1. Larry Kummer, Editor

        Rando,

You raise an important point. I would like to see comparisons between nations of men & women responding to the same social and tech forces.

A friend showed me some South Korean TV shows (Korean drama). The women are all beautifully dressed (e.g., short skirts, fine hair, heels) and act feminine. Is this evidence of another path to the future? Or is S. Korea just where America was in the late 1970s – early 1980s (e.g, see “Dallas”), on the same path as we are?

    3. Jordan Peterson has a solution – is it good or workable, that is a good question. While cleaning up one’s life is admirable, him sending young men off to die on the hill of modern marriage is a pity. Somebody has to do it and I did it before getting red pilled, now I’m using game theory and chose MGTOW.

      1. Larry Kummer, Editor

        Karoly,

That’s the essence of the situation – well stated!

But individual solutions are only stop-gaps. Men shape the world by working together.

  2. IMHO the solution is a new time of troubles. 20 years ago a Swedish grad student told me how young women acted over there, worse than what Red Robin shows. Now we know the consequences.

    1. Larry Kummer, Editor

      Dashui,

“IMHO the solution is a new time of troubles.”

I don’t understand what you are saying. That phrase originally referred to a period in Russian history (awful, as usual). See Wikipedia.

“…the death of the last Russian Tsar of the Rurik Dynasty, Feodor Ivanovich, in 1598, and the establishment of the Romanov Dynasty in 1613. In 1601–03, Russia suffered a famine that killed one-third of the population, about two million. At the time, during the Polish–Russian War (1605–18) (known as the Dimitriads), Russia was occupied by the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, and suffered from many civil uprisings, usurpers and impostors.”

In Ireland, “the Troubles” refers to the three-sided northern Ireland conflict of (roughly) 1969 – 1998 between the IRA, the militant N. I. protestants, and the British army. It eventually burned out, accomplishing little but the massive destruction of property, economic recession, and the deaths of over 3,500 people. See Wikipedia.

      “Now we know the consequences.”

What are the consequences in Sweden?

  3. Undertale has more depths to it than the entire Alt-Right ethos put together. Also, the Alt-Right is dead. All that’s left are a few “civic nationalist” bumpkins like Nick Fuentes (ironically a biracial Hispanic) who are card carrying cucks of the GOP.

    1. Larry Kummer, Editor

      Gothic,

Thank you for your interesting comment. As a good comment should, it raises many interesting questions.

      (1) “Undertale has more depths”

By “Undertale” do you mean the RPG (website, wikipedia)?

      (2) “more depths to it than the entire Alt-Right ethos put together.”

Can you explain that comparison? What is the “alt-right” ethos, and how does it compare to the ethos of this RPG? Just to be clear, ethos is “the guiding beliefs or ideals of a group.”

      (3) “are a few “civic nationalist” bumpkins like Nick Fuentes (ironically a biracial Hispanic)”

What is your source of information about the size of the alt-right? That’s useful info.

      (4) “who are card carrying cucks of the GOP.”

In what sense are they “cucks”? Are they supporters of the GOP? Vice versa? In America the far left and far Right have a history of problematic (often antagonistic) relationships with the mainstream political parties. See Hillary Clinton and Sander in 2016, as described in Donna Brazile’s book Hacks: The Inside Story of the Break-ins and Breakdowns That Put Donald Trump in the White House (excerpt here).

  4. That commercial was artistically daring, combining something so quaint and nostalgic as dinner and a movie with the more recent development of a female battlecunt mercenary.

    It clearly deserves a Clito!

  5. Once upon a not so distant past, to get married a man had to be liked, first of all, by the family of his bride.
Example: in a wonderful comedy by Carlo Goldoni (born Venice 1703, dead Paris 1793), “The Boors”, also known as “The Cantankerous Men” (“I rusteghi”, first performed in Venice, 1760, after the Carnival) the plot is the following.
A young girl, daughter to one of the “Boors”, old, traditionalist, patriarcal Venetians, is going to be married to a young man, naturally chosen by her father. The father and his friends want to follow the old ways: bride and groom will see each other for the first time in church, on the very day of the marriage.
Some witty and progressive women look for a way to let boy and girl to secretly see each other before the day of marriage. They succeed, and all that’s well ends well, because they both are nice, young and healthy, so that they like each other.
Nobody – not the progressive, scheming women, nor bride and groom – ever nurture the slightest doubt about the absolute right of the father to marry his daughter to whomever he pleases, nor the duty of the daughter to accept her chosen husband and respect, if not love, him.
Goldoni was a (moderate) fan of Enlightenment, and Venice maybe the place, in all Europe, where morals, especially sexual morals, were more relaxed and easy (possible exception, Versailles’ Court). There lived the most famous and accomplished courtesans of all Europe, among whom, in XVI sec., Veronica Franco, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veronica_Franco painted by Tintoretto, and Gaspara Stampa, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaspara_Stampa probably the greatest woman poet ever in Italian literature; and in XVIII sec., there were about 20.000 registered prostitutes.

  6. That marriage is NOT about erotic love. It’s about other kinds of love: respect & affection among husband and wife, respect & affection between sons and parents, attachment towards lineage and of course inheritance and estate. Eros is a powerful and whimsical god (see “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, there’s everything we need to know about it) which cannot be institutionalized. Marriage (whatever kind of marriage, monogamous, polygamous, etc.) is an institution.

The best solution for men’s desire is the ancient Greeks’, which still survives on the Southern shore of the Mediterranean Sea: wife for children, managing the estate, keeping the house; hetaira (companion) for what we now call “love”, i.e. an intimate, deeply felt erotic personal relation with a woman (see Pericles’ Aspasia); prostitutes for naked need. For men, this solution works very well.

For women, I don’t know. Maybe it could work, but il makes very, very unlikely marriage, because I do not know any man who could serenely accept that his wife loves a heart-companion and goes to bed with handsome, energetic young men when she needs a good screwing. What’s more, I do not know any woman who would serenely accept an husband who serenely accepts her behaving so: she would deeply despise him. Yes, something like that may happen, because everything happens: it happened, for example, in the French high aristocracy, in the second half of the XVIII century: once a French aristocrat came back home unexpected, and finding his wife in bed with her lover, told her: “Madame! Think what could have happened if SOMEONE ELSE had found you!”
But we know what happened to that nice, refined, well.meaning people, just some years later…

I don’t know what will happen to us. I guess that if we will be forced to discover that institutions are absolutely necessary, marriage, the most ancient institution of mankind with funereal rites, will be cherished once more. Unfortunately, to discover that institutions are absolutely necessary, you usually need to experience chaos and dissolution.

  8. Zebedee Magic Roundabout

Would, did, does the Charles Atlas mind set prepare America for crisis?
The answer has to be no, since those ads appeared, America has stumbled thru crisis after crisis, seldom successfully. If gyms and body building made a difference, we’d suffer no crises at all, after all America is the most fitness crazed, worked out, country going.
The ad is yucky- it’s catalogue of bad stuff- even at the time no one over twelve took it seriously.
Getting to the alt-right, wouldn’t a mgtow, incel type- shoot the jock bully, throttle the girlfriend and put the pictures on 4chan? Or perhaps skip the date, just shoot everyone the beach.
I was ‘taking the piss’ to coin a phrase, when I wrote that, but I realise that I’m stating fact, it is how many of those people at least dream, and often talk. Shouldn’t a critic of contemporary American life examine how such free wheeling rage, the entitlement to kill, is so openly aired?
The medium article-is no shock either, people cheat on their partner’s, dream of cheating on their partner, write gushy air headed things, always will. If you, are plunged into fits of outrage, and anger due to dumb article on line, or a Red Robin (!) advert maybe YOU have a problem. You might want to look into counselling, consider medication. And dear reader if you’re off your meds, you think you can do it alone, or because the meds get in the way of your brilliance, you’re wrong- starting taking them again, before everyone is sorry.
