Taming the “Wildcats” – U of Arizona hires student snitches to make its campus PC

University of Arizona

Summary: Sometimes, rarely, we get a glimpse of what the future would have been if we had chosen differently. The University of Arizona attempts to build its own stasi, a network of paid political officers (informing & indoctrinating) to enforce the dicta of its social justice warriors. It’s a inverted repeat of the late 1960s politics plus drugs and sex anti-establishment campus liberation movements. It’s what we might have seen across America during the Hillary years.

“Hegel says somewhere that all great historic facts and personages occur twice, so to speak. He forgot to add: ‘Once as tragedy, and again as farce.’”
— Opening of Karl Marx’s The Eighteenth Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte (1869).

Turning the Wildcats into tame pussies.

University of Arizona: “Social Justice Advocates Recruitment Information”

“The Social Justice Advocates (SJA) Position is one that is grounded in the multicultural competency framework and allows student staff to gain the awareness, knowledge, and skills necessary to work effectively with students and residents across cultures and identities. The position calls for an understanding of social identity groups, experiences, histories, and practices as it relates to every day {sic} life and life at the University of Arizona.

“The position also aims to increase understanding of one’s own self through critical reflection of power and privilege, identity and intersectionality, systems of socialization, cultural competency and allyship as they pertain to the acknowledgement, understanding and acceptance of differences. Finally, this position intends to increase a student staff member’s ability to openly lead conversations, discuss differences and confront diversely insensitive behavior.”

This is an ideal college job for anyone looking to join the Federal stasi (modeled after East Germany’s award-winning secret police) after graduation, perhaps to be begun during the Chelsea Clinton administration. The original U AZ job description page now says “This position is currently closed. We are in the process of reviewing the title and responsibilities.” It now exists only here in the internet archives (see the full text below).

The spirit of freedom is not quite dead in America, so the reaction was fast and harsh. The Daily Caller broke the story: “University Pays Students To Spy On Peers For ‘Bias Incidents’” by David Krayden.

“Sounding a bit like a block leader in Soviet Russia, SJAs will ‘openly lead conversations, discuss differences, and confront diversely insensitive behavior.’ When students are not complying with social justice standards, SJAs are encouraged to tattle on their peers, reveal the deviant actions to higher authorities and ‘report any bias incidents or claims to appropriate Residence Life staff.”

The Arizona Daily Independent reported that the “University Of Arizona Pays Students To Snitch On Each Other For $10 An Hour“, remarking that…

“The job notice advises candidates that if they are chosen they be ‘recognized as a top percentile student leader on campus.’ With a minimum 2.% GPA required for the job, “top percentile student” does not likely refer to a student’s academic performance.”

Is she a microaggression?

Ian Miles Cheong at Dow Jones’ HeatStreet (news for conservatives) gives additional detail.

“Bias incidents …can range from outright acts of racism to far more subtle “microaggressions” such as referring to someone as a “guy” or wearing dreadlocks while white. …The University of Arizona is a public school, and so these positions are funded with taxpayer dollars. At least until the state legislature reads about it.”

So many microaggressions. Even the hair police are busy, as in their coverage of the dreadlocks violations. See articles in Ebony, in CNN, in Everyday Feminism, in The Guardian, and many others.

We can learn much from the Stasi

Informers rot a society from within, creating distrust of peers, neighbors, even relatives. Other than narrow use by police (a necessary but easily abused evil), they are antithetical to a democracy. East Germany’s Stasi ran the largest network of informers (per capita) of any secret police agency ever, with one for every 7 adults.

By itself, this program at one western university means little. But it means much that a major public university created (or tried to create) a network of political agents to inform and indoctrinate students. It shows the extent of the rot in America’s universities. This and the countless similar stories (e.g., kangaroo courts for sexual crimes) shows that reform must be imposed by State governments. Only they can act to protect students and help parents see that their years of careful upbringing is not eroded away by leftists paid by the State.
