Politics of the FM site: radical leftist reformer or right-wing iconoclast?

Here is an answer to the most-often asked question about this site:  what is its political orientation, its bias?

Is the FM site home of a radical leftist reformer or right-wing iconoclast?

One virtue of the FM site is its clear position about the politics of 21st century America:  I stand against them.  Choosing a party today is like cattle at the stockyards choosing a pen.  They (being smarter than us) don’t bother with party identification.  They don’t cheer the “left-side” pen:  the virtue of its prisoners, the beauty of the fence, the free food.  Those in the “right-side” pen don’t wear logos or bumper-stickers, or trumpet their superior intelligence over those in the other pen.

However clear, this position confuses some people.  Here is the answer, more clearly stated — the true politics of the FM site, plainly stated:right wing and left wing

  1. It’s a left-wing site!  and
  2. It’s a right-wing site!

(1)  It’s a left-wing site!

“You are so in the tank for the current Democratic leadership that I hope you’re breathing Nitrox.” (source)

With friends writing articles like those on the FM site, President Obama needs no enemies.   Another view:

{Y}ou are a left wing idealist. you hardly ever represent the right wing in any of your posts (source).

He must know very few leftist idealists.  These assertions are obviously wrong.  For example, some major themes on the FM website that lefties abhor:

  • A critical view of Obama and many of his policies.
  • A skeptical view of anthropogenic global warming (AGW).

For evidence, look at the FM Reference Pages on the right-side menu bar; click on Obama, his administration and policies. You will see dozens of posts, including the following:

The FM site passes a milestone

Over 500,000 visitors since inception in November 2007, per Sitemeter.  Some other metrics:

  • Over 836,000 page views since inception, per WordPress.
  • Over 6,500 comments since inception.
  • This is the 668th post (posts from Sept 2003 – Nov 2007 were copied from DNI).
  • The site currently gets about 4,000 page views per day.
  • The Technorati “Blog Authority” is 203.

The traffic counters appear on the right-side menu bar, at the bottom.

Question:  The Technorati “Blog Authority” counter does not pick up many of the sites that link to the FM site.  Does anyone know why?

The most popular posts on the FM site during its first year

Today is the birthday of the FM site, one year since the first post after being pushed out of the Defense and National Interest “nest.”  Here is some material you might find of interest.

  1. The most important posts, in my opinion.
  2. The most-viewed posts.
  3. Traffic on the FM post in its first year of operation.

1.  The most important posts, IMO

(a)  The most important category:  Military, political, and strategic theory

(b)  The post with the most original insights:  A solution to 4GW — the introduction

(c)  The most cheerful section, and has the lowest traffic:  Good News about America!

(d)  The most useful posts, from the FM “reference library”:

The suggestion box is open: how can the FM site be improved?

This week the FM site hits some new milestones, as Internet sites are measured.  This is just a dot in the great Internet ocean, but has had modest success in the class of English-language sites featuring long and somewhat technical articles about geopolitics.

So let’s open the suggestion box!  How can the FM site be improved?   {Important note:  the software is provided for free by Wordpress, any tech ideas must be directed to them}

Keep in mind this is a hobby for the proprietor, who often wonders if building ships in a bottle would be a better use of time.  As background, the current version of the “About Fabius Maximus and this blog” page is reprinted below.

New milestones for the FM site, since opened in November 2007

  • 300 thousand visits, per Sitemeter.
  • 500 thousand page views, per WordPress.
  • Technorati “authority” of 220 (a measure of links to the FM site).
  • 500 posts
  • 4500 comments posted (perhaps the most important metric).

The first three of these metrics appear at the bottom of the right side menu bar.

Please share your comments by posting below.  Please make them brief (250 words max), civil, and relevant to this post.  Or email me at fabmaximus at hotmail dot com (note the spam-protected spelling).

Current version of the About Fabius Maximus and this blog page

  1. The focus of the FM blog
  2. Navigation tips
  3. Important notes about the operation of this blog
  4. Are blogs useful for America?
  5. Who was Fabius Maximus?
  6. Qualifications of the Author

Trivia note about the FM blog

Recently this site passed the milestone of 300,000 page views and 3,000 comments since inception.  Today we will hit have hit 200,000 visitors (per sitemeter).  The traffic metrics appear at the bottom of the right-side menu bar.

My thanks to all of you, the readers, who have made this possible — esp. those posting the informative comments that contribute so much of this blog’s value.

Special thanks to the staff of the Defense and National Interest website without whom this site would not exist, as their work in setting it up (I just post) and advice along the way have proved invaluable.
